Local Resources, Support Groups & Associations

The BC Lions Society -- The BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, also known as the Easter Seal People, seek to support children with disabilities thoughout British Columbia through programs, camps, and services.

Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC) -- The CAYC exists to provide a voice on critical issues related to the quality of life of all young children and families.

Canadian Cancer Society -- Local community contacts and access online resources through the Canadian Cancer Society, a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life for people living with cancer.

Canadian Diabetes Association -- Learn about diabetes research, education, service, and advocacy issues through the Canadian Diabetes Association. Also locate regional offices, local programs, and health monitoring programs.

Canadian Lung Association -- Locate the British Columbia affiliate of the Canadian Lung Association dedicated to promoting and improving lung health for all Canadians. Their mission is to lead nationwide and international lung health initiatives, prevent lung disease, help people manage lung disease, and promote lung health.

Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) -- CNIB is a nationwide, community-based charity committed to research, public education, and vision health for all Canadians. CNIB provides the services and support necessary for people to enjoy a good quality of life while living with vision loss.

Dotsplus -- DotsPlus , produced by Oregon State University, is a device-independent typeface developed for blind readers that intends to encompass a large set of symbols in addition to standard braille.

HealthTalk -- Sounding like talk radio shows, but delivered both over the telephone - via toll-free numbers - and the Internet, HealthTalk is a free, around-the-clock service that connects patients and family members worldwide with leading medical experts and also with other people like themselves.

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada -- Locate the British Columbia affiliate of the Heart and Stroke Foundation - dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. The website offers information on healthy living, events, and volunteer opportunities.

Kidney Foundation of Canada -- The Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national volunteer organization committed to reducing the burden of kidney disease through funding and stimulating innovative research; providing education and support; promoting access to high quality healthcare; and increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and donation.


March of Dimes Canada -- The March of Dimes Canada is a nationally registered charitable organization providing support services to people with disabilities, their families, and caregivers across Canada.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada -- The mission of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is to be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.
