Principal Scientist, Protein Sciences

Job Summary
This individual will lead the purification and biophysical characterization of preclinical protein therapeutics. This person will have significant experience in protein chemistry, purification and characterization and is expected to be able to design and conduct experiments with some supervisor oversight to evaluate novel bispecific proteins.
Responsibilities
- Characterize novel bispecific proteins using biophysical techniques such as SDS-PAGE, size exclusion chromatography, UV-spectroscopy, SPR, differential scanning calorimetry, etc
- Develop new purification protocols when necessary in order to purify critical reagents
- Design and perform stability analyses of ADAPTIR bispecific proteins to aid in lead selection of clinical candidates with minimal supervision
- Lead the development of new techniques for assessing protein stability in order to identify promising therapeutic leads
- Present Protein Sciences data at departmental and project team meetings as requested by manager.
- Manage existing scientific staff on Protein Sciences team

Education, Experience & Skills
- Significant experience with protein purification, particularly antibodies from mammalian expression systems using affinity, size exclusion, ion exchange or hydrophobic interaction chromatography
- Experience using GE AKTA chromatography instruments
- Experience with UV and colorimetric-based protein concentration determination
- Experience with running SDS-PAGE gels and Western blots, analytical size exclusion chromatography, Isoelectric Focusing (IEF) and other analysis methods of recombinant proteins
- Ability to multi-task across experiments and projects.
- Ability to analyze results and perform independent experimentation
- Proven ability to communicate experimental procedures and results through a variety of project and group team meetings
- Excellent organization skills including accurate records and verbal presentation of work
- Experience managing scientific staff
Physical/Mental Requirements
Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline with at least 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree) with at least 10 years of experience
